写作题目与要求
Study the following drawings carefully and write an essay in which you should
1) describe the drawing,
2) interpret its meaning and,
3) suggest counter-measures.
You should write about 160-200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20points)

参考范文:
As is vividly betrayed in the drawing above, all the people are advocating individualism which is highly valued by most people who are living in our modern society. This drawing mirrors a reality in our society, which should arouse our social concern.
The implied meaning of the drawing can be illustrated as follows. To begin with, the overemphasizing of individualism is detrimental to our society. Since we are living in a social environment, we should attach equal importance to both individualism and co-operation. Otherwise, our society can not keep balance and will stop developing. What’s more individualism sometimes must come second. Many significant projects, such as bridge building, rocket launching and so forth in our society, must be conducted by way of co-operation. If we always take individualism as the priority no matter what we are engaged in, our social progress is bound to be hindered, which will do harm to the development of human civilization.
Counter-measures must be taken to curb the prevailing trend so as to return people a harmonious living and working environment. Most importantly, we must realize that we cannot survive without our dependence on the society and understand the importance of co-operation. (198 words)

A.Study the following picture carefully and write an essay in no less than 200 words.
B.Your essay must be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET 2.
C.Your essay should meet the requirements below:
1)describe the set of pictures, interpret its meaning
2)and point out the implications in our life

参考范文:
The set of pictures present in front of us a sharp contrast between two different kinds of attitudes people hold in the face of stressful events. The former type is always staying away from some misfortunes or crises, trying to desperately “fly” when confronted with difficulties, but individuals of the latter type optimistically “fight” against such events, sure that they will be in control of their own destiny. Indeed, we should act on the values of optimism.
The pessimist invariably takes a passive “fight” in the face of adversities. He feels like fate’s plaything and moves slowly. He doesn’t seek advice, assuming that nothing can be done when he is in difficulty or in distress. Any studies suggest that the pessimist’s feeling of helplessness undermines the body’s natural defenses, the immune system. Feeling passive and unable to dodge life’s blows, he expects ill health and other misfortunes, no matter what he does.
On the contrary, optimists will feel in control of their own life. If something is going wrong, an optimist acts quickly, reaching out for advice, forming a new plan of action, and looking for solutions. He will think that he is much better than the facts would justify-and more often than not, that is what keeps him alive and active, as evidenced in many successful medical treatments. He actually recognizes that stress is nothing but a natural part of his routine life. Sure enough, what determines our choice between “flying” or “fighting” will be our attitudes towards life, not the stress itself.
If we hold an optimistic attitude, we can change our life for the better. Very few can come through distressful periods with more physical and mental vigor than they had before. We should also know that a long time with no “fighting” except “flying” can lead to boredom, and even worse, to physical and mental strain. (about 300 words)

Look at the following picture and write an article on advertisement. Your article should cover the points below:
Study the following picture carefully and write an essay to
(1) describe the picture
(2) interpret its meaning, and
(3) give your suggestion as to the best way to find happiness.

参考范文:
As is vividly depicted in the cartoon, a boy is contemplating the true meaning of true meaning of happiness. It is indeed a tough question for him: what on earth is happiness? He is puzzled as to in which circumstance he will feel happy—when he makes money, or wins true love, or is in good health, or what?
It is obvious that happiness is difficult to define. We all know people who have a relatively easy and comfortable life, and yet are essentially unhappy. And we may also have friends who have suffered a great deal but generally remain happy. Therefore, happiness is actually of one’s own making. If you have a positive attitude and are determined to find the little happiness of life, you are destined to be jolly, no matter what kind of situation you are in.
Happiness is an attitude, not a condition. It lies in the struggle to be happy. People sometimes go to extremes and frantically pursue money, power, high social status, etc., which are all symbols of success—but never of happiness. Perhaps if they shifted their goal from ultimate success to unswerving efforts and to confidence that they will be successful one day, they’d be a great deal happier.

In the thought-provoking picture, a young man is sitting on the chair in an autobus that is allocated specially for the old, the weak, the pregnant, the disabled, children and the like. Regrettably, he simply neglects the pregnant lady standing just beside him with great efforts. The scene will set ordinary citizens to think seriously about the nation’s painfully declining moral climate.
Some of this can be attributed to the lack of morality, a problem shown particularly in the younger generation. Their sense of moral standards seems to be withering although their material comforts have been considerably enhanced. What makes matters even worse is the fact that such misdeeds as spitting, picking flowers in public gardens or making noises in public places are becoming so pervasive that they are likely to be taken for granted by the public. With today’s worsening morality, social bonds have been weakened, replaced by a greater emphasis on self. That is why new ideas must come forward to improve the nation’s moral climate though the challenge cannot be underestimated.
Moral decline will not be reversed until we find new ways to improve our moral standards. For adults, we can make use of every chance to remind young people of the importance of good manners, both as a competent citizen in modern society and as a model for them to follow. Only in this way can the moral climate of our nation be improved, and we sincerely wish that the young man in the picture could realize that he has sit on a “wrong” seat.

Study the following bar chart carefully and write an essay in which you should
1) describe the bar chart,
2) state the meaning and
3) put forward your position.
You should write about 160-200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20points)

参考范文:
As is obviously revealed in the bar chart above, over the past seven years (1998—2004), the proportion of free blood donation in clinical blood collection has been climbing and rocketed to over seventy percent in 2004, which is a welcome development to our whole society.
The implied meaning of the bar chart above can be illustrated as follows. To begin with, the increasing percentage indicates that great changes have taken place in terms of people’s spiritual civilization. Most people want to make contribution to our society in one way or another is a way to realize self-value. The spirit of selflessness is more pervasive than ever before. What’s more, the statistics betray that modern people, especially the young, have a better understanding of medical knowledge. Most people have abandoned their old idea that blood donation is most harmful to human body. In one word, our spiritual progress and rich medical knowledge have resulted in such a positive result.
In may view, effective measures should be taken to encourage free blood donation. First of all, a nation-vide education campaign should be launched to spread the necessity and knowledge of free blood donation. Besides, should be set up to protect those who donate blood. Only in this way can we create a harmonious and healthy society. (234words)

Study the following two pie charts carefully and write an essay entitled The Changes in College Students’Ways of Spending Vacations. In this essay you should:
(1) interpret college student’s ways of spending vacations in 1980 and2004,
(2) analyze possible reasons for the change, and
(3) your comments about the change.
You should write 160-200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.

参考范文:
As is clearly shown by the two pie charts, from 1980 to 2004 the students who go traveling and do social practices during vacations increase greatly while those who stay at home decrease a lot. For instance, in 1980, only 9% of the students took advantage of their vacation time to do social practice, but its percentage has been more than tripled in 2004. Obviously, great changes have taken place in the way that college students spend their vacations.
Considering these changes, we can find there are possibly three main reasons. Firstly, with the fast development of economy, many people have become rich, which makes it possible for more students to go traveling. Most parents tend to support their children to travel financially. Secondly, the reason lies in the fact that the boom of tourism has made traveling attractive and, also, modem transportation has made it easier for students to go out to travel. The travel agencies not only provide historic sightseeing but also cultural as well as educational tour around China. What is more important, the fast changing society has raised higher requirements for college graduates. The authorities of Chinese university or college have been encouraging their students to do social practices in the hope that college students would broaden their view to know more about the society and become more adaptable to the future work after they graduate. Therefore, more students go out traveling or doing social practices during the vacations.
As a college student, I think the charts reflect the exciting progress on the college students’ thinking patterns. We have become much mature to realize how to spend our vacations meaningfully and practically. Form the changes in the charts, it is easy for us to predict that more and more college students will walk out their home and throw themselves into more various vacation activities.
