A Belgian is closing his ostrich farm, because the birds go crazy every time cyclists pass the fields.
Luc Goethals, 52, from Meulebeke, said: "This can't go on and therefore I decide to quit." He said when one cycle tour passed his farm, the ostriches got so scared they didn't lay any more eggs. "When they see someone cycling, they just notice a bowing figure. And because the figure is smaller than they are, they think it's a hyena, which is their natural enemy.
"And not only the bike tours cause problems. A few weeks ago, people came to do parachuting on a field nearby. The ostriches got so scared they turned impotent." The farmer says he's started a lawsuit to claim damages from bike-tour organisers, reports Het Laatste Nieuws. Mr Goethals is now willing to sell his animals for 500 euros each.
